Former All-Ireland camogie referee John Dermody from Lough Lene Gales, Westmeath, has been appointed as the new Referee Development and Education Co-ordinator with the Camogie Association.
Dermody, one of the most experienced officials in the game, has refereed at the highest level, including All-Ireland championship fixtures. He was part of the officiating team for the 2021 All-Ireland Senior Final between Cork and Galway and has long been recognised for his fairness and commitment to the sport.
In his new national role, Dermody will oversee referee education, training and progression across all levels of camogie. He will also work closely with county boards to support recruitment, mentoring and retention of match officials.
A strong advocate for respect and support for referees, Dermody has been involved in campaigns such as “No Referee, No Game,” promoting positive engagement with match officials and encouraging new referees to take up the whistle.
Leinster Camogie Chairperson Martin Quilty said Dermody’s appointment “reflects his outstanding contribution to officiating and his passion for developing the next generation of referees and we wish him well in his role.”
